“We want yo push you to the edge everytime”
Owner James Stella of Kaizen Crossfit in Summerlin tells me.
“We want to push to your edge each time so that you are better when you leave than when you showed up.”
I’ll admit, I have never done Crossfit myself and to be quite honest, I have been a little intimidated by it.
If you asked me what Crossfit was, I would have told that it’s this thing where people push tires up hills and yell a lot.
After my conversation with James, I quickly changed my tune.
He made me realize that it is about functional strength and pushing yourself. He explained that by training in a way that emulates your everyday life, your everyday life gets easier.
Think about it… things as simple as picking your baby up, lifting a carry-on to store it on the plane or even carrying grocery bags.
I feel that it is similar to a baseball player swinging a “weighted” bat or “donut”. After swinging a heavy bat, when it comes time to swing a regular bat it is done with ease.
James also explains that the ability to scale the workouts makes Crossfit something anyone can enjoy and reap benefits from.
After James had been in the boxing world for many years as well as training clients, he knew Crossfit was for him when he watched a video of it on a friends computer. Which he describes as “possibly the one out of Steve Jobs’ garage.” “It was that old” he said.
When he decided to make the move from traditional training he attempted to bring along his current clients, only 3 accepted the challenge.
Now being in business for 10+ years, James is happier than ever as he watches his clients breakdown barriers and achieve goal after goal while becoming the best versions of themselves.
